Delivery and solution assurance to a delayed transformation programme for a Global Tier 1 Tech Company.

The Challenge.

Global tech company with revenue of £33Bn seeking to transform from tech manufacturer to Digital consultancy embarked on a global transformation programme seeking to change its core operating model and to unify the business on to an SAP global operating model template. The enterprise had developed a detailed global strategy, global strategic outcomes and benefit case, it had engaged three tier 1 global consultancies to deliver the target operating model and supporting SAP solution.

Three years in and 18 months behind schedule, with the system integrator replaced, Target operating model stalled, SAP design incomplete and a shifting benefits case, we were asked to step in and help and determine the true status of the programme and proposed way forward.

The One Eighty Approach.

We were given the mammoth task of assuring this colossus of a programme prior to an all important design sign off milestone. We were asked to assure the programmes:

  • risk management,

  • Primary system integrators performance,

  • SAP solution design and whether it met the required outcomes of the business,

  • target operating model design,

  • enterprise architecture model,

  • benefits case,

  • the value derived from the clients SAP MaxAttention contract.

  • plan and critical path and

  • most importantly was the programme going to deliver the global strategic outcomes.

To do this we interviewed global process owners, business subject matter experts, the C suite, programme team, suppliers and reviewed over 200 documents within a 4 week period.

The End Result.

Our work resulted in four main outputs which helped the programme leadership reach an informed decision ahead of a key milestone.

  • a detailed overview of programmes governance model with a detailed analysis of the issues and risks identified.

  • a clear view of the fundamental state of the solution and target operating model design and its alignment to the needs of the business and alignment to the strategic strategy.

  • detailed view of holistic programme delivery performance, a clear assessment of the plan, all outstanding deliverables and associated risks to the critical path.   

  • set of recommendations and mitigation actions to the Programme leadership, SRO and senior stakeholders addressing the major factors impacting the programme.
