Helping  a Tier 2 Defence Manufacturer assure its SAP stabilisation programme.

The Challenge.

Global defence manufacturer created by Private Equity carve out of multiple operating companies, transitioned rapidly to a new complex SAP S4 HANA manufacturing target operating model as  part of the race to move from a redundant legacy operating model and supporting technologies.

Due to the pace of its formation and rapid move to SAP, not all elements of the new target operating model had been identified leading to process orchestration issues impacting the Order to cash engine room end to end process. Operational instability was impacting the ability to fulfil orders, recognise costs and revenue, close effectively and publish investor insights.

The One Eighty Approach.

We provided the following services:

  • a rapid audit of the stabilisation programme, identifying the programme failure points. This included governance model, scope, solution and operating model design approach, delivery and business change approach , go live options and finance position.

  • a validation of the end to end order to cash process, controlling and management accounting model.

The End Result.

Our work resulted in four main outcomes, which helped the programme leadership move forward:

  • assurance that the stabilisation programme had in place a mature risk management process ensuring risks were identified with appropriate mitigation steps.

  • determine that the programmes scope was aligned to the required outcomes of the business, with a mature plan and a clear critical path with a supporting cost to complete burndown.

  • working with the client to remediate the order to cash process, with focus upon the inter plant drop shipment process, work order and production order model, cost allocation model and operational analytics.

  • supporting the client to adopt a playbook approach based upon the Supply Chain Control Tower concept to sustain and embed the new order to cash operating model.

  • supporting the client to adopt a playbook approach for controlling and finance period end close, facilitating a fast close and real time COPA profitability insights.

  • working with the system integrator and client to ensure the recommended changes to the SAP solution were appropriate and aligned to the mitigation of ongoing Order to cash issues.
